Bulldog: coat, folds and comfortable outings
The Bulldog’s broad, compact body and short coat need a care plan that includes more than brushing. Regular attention to facial folds, ears and the area beneath the tail accompanies gentle shared activity. Warm conditions also matter when choosing when and where to go outside.
Body and standard weight
Both FCI and the earlier UK guide give weights of 25 kg for males and 23 kg for females, without a numerical height here. The back has a distinctive slight fall behind the shoulders, rising over the loin before curving toward the tail. That is different from a generic level topline. The UK description calls for firm muscular condition and discourages exaggerated features that interfere with movement.
Brushing and routine checks
The coat is short, fine, close and smooth rather than wiry. AKC suggests about ten minutes of soft brushing two or three times weekly, with a rubber curry brush helpful during heavier shedding. It also suggests nail attention roughly every two weeks. The UK grooming category is weekly; the AKC account provides a more frequent coat-care example. Include checking the ears and keeping the area beneath the tail clean.
Folds and the weather
AKC advises regularly checking that facial folds are clean and dry because food or moisture can collect there. Have a veterinarian demonstrate suitable care for the individual skin and avoid improvising products around the eyes. Its exercise and health guidance also stresses avoiding excessive heat and humidity, with shade, water and a cool place to rest. Choose outings around comfortable conditions rather than relying on a fixed clock time outdoors.
Daily activity and alternatives
The UK category is up to an hour of exercise daily, with a small house and small or medium garden. AKC describes moderate walks and play and cautions about stairs and pools. A garden still needs supervision and does not replace shared outings. Compare the Boston Terrier’s short-coat routine and the Shar Pei’s own skin and ear care before choosing by a compact outline alone.
