Weimaraner: plan for the coat variety as well as exercise
The Weimaraner has a muscular frame and a body longer than tall. Both short- and long-haired coats are described in its FCI standard, so a short-coat grooming routine does not cover every dog. Substantial shared activity is the larger daily commitment in either case.
Two body proportions and two coat forms
The FCI body-length-to-height ratio is approximately 12:11; the earlier UK description uses 12:10. FCI shoulder heights are 59–70 cm for males and 57–65 cm for females, with approximate weights of 30–40 kg and 25–35 kg. The UK heights differ at 61–69 cm and 56–64 cm, without numerical weight.
The FCI short coat is strong, dense and smooth, with little or no undercoat. Its long coat is soft, smooth or slightly wavy, with or without undercoat, and 3–5 cm flank hair plus feathering. The UK long-coat description gives 2.5–5 cm body hair.
Short-coat advice has a defined scope
The AKC grooming advice below explicitly discusses brushing the short coat to remove dead hair. It highlights keeping nails short and cleaning the ears. Make those checks part of the routine instead of waiting until nails are conspicuous on a hard floor.
The earlier UK grooming category is weekly and covers this profile’s short-and-long coat description. A long-haired dog also has feathering to work through; ask a groomer to demonstrate suitable maintenance for the coat actually present. Discuss the longer coat and feathering when arranging grooming, rather than booking a service intended only for a smooth coat.
An active daily plan
The UK category exceeds two hours daily and allows town or country, with a large house and garden. The AKC also describes high exercise needs and a particular enjoyment of running. Consider where and when you can provide shared activity consistently, rather than equating a neat coat with a small time commitment.
Compare proportions and coat work
The Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer has a harsh outer coat and summer undercoat loss, with different sex-specific body ratios. The German Shorthaired Pointer has its own short hard coat and brushing-every-few-days advice. Grey colouring or short hair alone does not establish an interchangeable routine.
