Yorkshire Terrier: a fine, straight coat with a parting

The Yorkshire Terrier’s coat hangs straight down either side of a compact body, with a parting running from the nose to the tail. The FCI standard describes fine, silky body hair rather than a woolly texture. Its upright carriage and neat outline are part of that description.

Long hair does not mean a rough coat

The body hair is described as moderately long, glossy and perfectly straight. It should not impede movement. Dark steel blue and rich tan form the standard’s color pattern.

The Affenpinscher offers a clear contrast: its harsh hair stands out around the face, with bushy eyebrows and a beard. The French Bulldog’s short, smooth coat gives another very different outline within a small size category.

Daily grooming in the earlier guide

The earlier UK guide lists daily grooming and up to 30 minutes of daily exercise. It pairs these with a flat or apartment and a small or medium garden, in town or country. The Affenpinscher is listed for grooming more than once a week, and the French Bulldog weekly.

Those comparisons make the grooming entry worth considering alongside size and available space. They are earlier guide categories rather than a personal care schedule.

Two sources describe different measurements

The FCI standard gives a weight ceiling of 3.2 kg but no numeric height. The separate AKC US breed profile describes height as 7–8 inches. That is breed-profile information, not an FCI height rule or an AKC show-standard measurement.

The linked Affenpinscher and French Bulldog profiles make it easy to compare the coats and care categories without treating every small dog as the same kind of companion.
