Hamiltonstovare: a rectangular outline and a routine beyond the garden
The Hamiltonstovare has a rectangular, tricoloured outline and a close coat. Its size guidance includes both ideal heights and wider allowed ranges, while everyday care calls for a plan for shared physical and mental activity.
Ideal heights within allowed ranges
FCI ideal height is 57 cm for males, with allowed variation of 53–61 cm, and 53 cm for females, with variation of 49–57 cm. The earlier UK description gives the same ideals and ranges. The ideal is a point within the range, not a replacement for it. No numeric weight range is given.
The FCI back is level and powerful, with a muscular, slightly arched loin. The coat is harsh, close lying and not too short, becoming very short and smooth on the head, ears and fronts of the legs. Hair can be a little longer beneath the tail and behind the thighs.
Coat care through the week
The earlier UK description includes a short, soft undercoat, especially thick in winter, and the overview lists weekly grooming. AKC care guidance describes seasonal shedding, a monthly bath, and nail and dental care, without prescribing a weekly brushing method.
Use those details when discussing the individual coat’s routine with a groomer. A close coat still needs attention during shedding, and the work of nails and teeth should be planned alongside bathing.
Exercise guidance with different measures
The UK guide lists more than two hours of exercise, a large house, large garden and country setting. AKC describes at least a daily 20-minute free run outside plus mental activity, recommending a securely fenced yard.
That running period is one activity example, rather than the same measure as the UK daily exercise category. Arrange a suitable enclosure, walks and time working or playing with the dog, adapting the routine to age and condition. A garden alone does not describe what the dog will actually do there.
Compare similar hound outlines
English Foxhounds have an approximate unsexed FCI height of 58–64 cm and a short, dense coat. Bavarian Mountain Hounds have a slightly rising topline and smaller sex-specific height ranges, with ideal weights related to height. Compare those details and each breed’s care advice before relying on a similar hound silhouette.
