Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer: a long frame and seasonal undercoat

The Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer combines a grey harsh coat with a body longer than its height. Its care guide uses the Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer name. The coat needs seasonal loose-hair management, while regular shared activity requires a secure setting.

Body length and height are different measurements

The FCI and earlier UK descriptions give a body-length-to-height ratio of 10:9 for males and 10:8 for females. Both give shoulder heights of 62–68 cm for males and 57–64 cm for females. Neither supplies a numerical weight here.

The FCI describes approximately 4 cm harsh, straight outer hair over short, fine undercoat, which is normally lost in summer. Beard hair is longer and softer than the body hair. That seasonal description is more informative for coat care than treating a broad shedding label as a promise of no loose hair.

Wipe-downs and a seasonal mitt

The AKC guide recommends damp-cloth wipe-downs between baths and a grooming mitt or shedding knife during shedding. Ask for a demonstration before using an unfamiliar tool on the harsh outer coat. The earlier UK grooming category is weekly.

The AKC routine includes nail trimming every four weeks and starting dental care early. These practical tasks can be planned alongside a regular coat check, with extra time when the fine undercoat comes out.

Read the exercise category accurately

The UK guide places exercise up to one hour, with a large house and garden in the country. The AKC describes an active partner for hiking, jogging or cycling and recommends opportunities to run, preferably in a securely fenced area. Plan shared activity around the individual dog; the UK category is not a minimum or a guarantee that one hour suits every dog.

Compare grey and wire coats carefully

The Weimaraner has its own short- and long-haired FCI descriptions, different proportions and a higher UK exercise category. The German Wirehaired Pointer has a near-square outline and a 2–4 cm outer coat. Use their own outlines, exercise descriptions and coat methods to decide which daily routine you can maintain.
