Hungarian Kuvasz: wavy white hair and regular shared activity

The Kuvasz has a strong, nearly square frame under a wavy white double coat. Regular brushing removes debris and loose hair. Its care and growing-puppy activity need to be considered on their own terms, alongside the time and space required by a large dog.

Own size ranges and a wavy coat

The FCI gives males 71–76 cm and 48–62 kg, females 66–70 cm and 37–50 kg. The earlier UK guide instead lists males 71–75 cm and 40–52 kg, females 66–70 cm and 30–42 kg. Keep those separate descriptions rather than making one blended range.

The body is only slightly longer than tall, with a straight, muscular back. Moderately harsh, wavy outer hair covers fine downy undercoat. The FCI describes body hair of 4–12 cm, with shorter hair on the head and fuller neck and tail furnishings.

Brushing and routine handling

The AKC recommends weekly brushing to remove debris and loose hair, occasional baths, and nail trimming roughly monthly if natural wear has not kept them short. The UK grooming category is more than once weekly, so allow checks between the fuller brush-throughs.

The wavy body hair and fuller furnishings are different areas to work through. Ask a groomer to demonstrate reaching the undercoat gently if the coat becomes difficult to manage; the visible white surface does not show how much loose hair remains beneath.

Daily activity, with controlled puppy exercise

The UK exercise category is up to one hour, with a large country house and garden. The AKC calls for daily activity, a fenced yard and adequate, controlled exercise for rapidly growing puppies. Those points support an age-aware routine, rather than assuming a puppy should follow the same outings as a mature dog.

Compare the white coats individually

The Maremma’s own club stresses its livestock-guardian role, while its grooming guidance uses an undercoat rake and comb. The Pyrenean Mountain Dog has a different height description and pin-or-slicker care advice. White coats and guardian histories do not establish identical home routines.
