Cesky Terrier: a clipped body and silky furnishings
The Cesky Terrier has a rectangular body, short legs and a slightly wavy coat with a silky sheen. Clipping the body is part of its own grooming tradition, making it a useful contrast with terriers whose coats are maintained by stripping.
Body and height guidance
FCI height is 25–32 cm, with ideal heights of 29 cm for males and 27 cm for females. Weight must be between 6 and 10 kg. The back is of medium length, with a relatively long, muscular loin and a topline rising over the arched loin and rump.
The FCI coat is long, fine but firm and slightly wavy. Its show description leaves brows, beard and lower furnishings, while the upper neck, shoulders and back are kept no longer than 1–1.5 cm, with gradual transitions. That presentation description is a useful reference to discuss with a groomer.
Use a groomer familiar with the coat
AKC care guidance recommends clipping rather than hand-stripping and suggests a breeder-recommended groomer. It calls for regular bathing between appointments because dirt does not fall out as it can from harder coats.
The guide also discusses ear maintenance during grooming. Ask the groomer or veterinarian to demonstrate suitable care and discuss any work inside or around the ears. The UK category of grooming more than once a week remains a separate prompt for attention between appointments.
Exercise and home arrangements
The UK guide lists up to one hour of exercise daily, a small house, small or medium garden and either town or country. AKC recommends daily walks and shared play, with a leash outside a securely enclosed space and a fenced yard.
Arrange the walks and play time you can provide regularly. Consider a comfortable grooming space at home as well as the outdoor routine, since the silky furnishings still need attention between full grooming visits.
Related long-coated terriers
Sealyham Terriers have a long, hard, wiry outer coat and a different strip-or-clip pet-care discussion. Skye Terriers have a hard, straight outer coat over soft undercoat and a natural long presentation. Compare the actual coat-care demonstrations instead of applying the same trimming method to all three.
